Biography
Edward Jones. Known for his racing career in Formula 3, Indy Lights, IndyCar and now for the coming season in the DTM touring car series.
Ed hasn't been afraid of the top step of the podium throughout his career, dominating in karting between 2004 and 2007, in the UAE Championship - Cadets, Rotax Max Challenge UAE - Junior and UAE Championship - Rotax Junior divisions, scoring 1st in each championship. He then took on Europe and the Rest of the World for the following 3 years in Karts, with mixed results as he progressed up the karting ladder.
2011 and Ed made the jump to formula cars, with appearances in multiple Formula Renault and FR 2.0 series, as well as a season in the Intersteps Championship, which was the evolution of the previous Formula BMW series, and is the equivalent to today’s Formula 4 series. 2012 was more of the same with Formula Renault NEC and Eurocup seasons for Fortec Motorsport.
2013 saw Ed move up to Formula 3, including appearing at the famed Macau Grand Prix, a full season in the European F3 Open, and appearances in the British National F3 series and FIA European F3 Championship along with running another season in Formula Renault 2.0 events. 2014 was much of the same, with a full season now in the FIA F3 series, along with 3/3 wins in the Cooper Tires British F3 series.
Ed then began an assault on the United States, with 8 podiums out of 12 races in the 2014 Florida Winter Series, before taking an Indy Lights seat in 2015, ending that season 3rd overall. It was only upwards from here, with Ed taking the overall championship in 2016, and earning himself a seat at Dale Coyne Racing for the 2017 Verizon IndyCar Series, where he scored a podium at the biggest race in history, the Indianapolis 500! 2018 saw a move to Chip Ganassi Racing, and podiums at Long Beach and Belle Isle, but unfortunately a DNF at the Indy 500. 2019 unfortunately did not match up to this, driving for Ed Carpenter Racing and only at road/street courses, a best finish of 6th at the Indianapolis Road Course was the high point of a testing season bookended by retirement.
2020 sees Ed join SIMMSA Esports, as well as the exciting announcement of his signing with Audi Sport Team WRT to drive an RS5 in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM). We hope to see him bring the fight to the established drivers there and score some great results!
